Sunday's my favorite day to ride because the streets are deserted. There's no one around to see me running stop signs and red lights. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? I felt inspired to go a little further today: 38 mi at 9.4 mph with 2180 ft of climb and burning 2484 kcal. Temp in the mid-70's. Paid more attention to water and food intake. Still have quite a bit of progress needed to be ready for the big ride.

This is Home. Hotel Monroe was one of the first "fireproof" hotels, built for business travelers in about 1910. It was rehabbed about 5 yrs ago into 9 modified loft condos. We're on the 2nd floor, with a view of the back alley. Because we're down low in the building, and it's built like a bomb shelter, it has a surprisingly quiet and cozy cave-like feel to it. This will be our destination on the first leg of the cross country ride, and the starting point of the final leg next year.

These were some turkey vultures keeping an eye on me as I pedaled along Cliff Drive. Vultures are Never a good sign...
