Up at 5:45, breakfast at 6:30, and on the road by 7:15. We wanted to get most of the ride done before the temps got too high.

Angela took this shot of us getting ready to start the ride. We said our goodbyes to her, as she was headed off to spend a couple of days with her sister, Michelle, before flying back to KC.

A look back down into the valley, where Vallejo sits. That's I-80 right next to us. We actually followed this freeway for much of the day.

Ian getting his shoes adjusted and ready for a long day in the saddle.

Karl provided our map support today and did a great job. We only had to backtrack a few times...most of which were not his fault.

We passed this giant field of sunflowers, all of which are facing the rising sun. We also passed fields full of grapes, plums, almonds, olives, corn, tomatoes, etc. Farming is a huge business in the state of California. All of the fields we saw today were irrigated through the use of intricate sprinklers, as these valleys don't get enough rain to support the growing season.

This huge yellow bike is something you'd expect to see along the road during the Tour de France. We believe this was displayed in a field of olive trees.

We stopped in Davis to eat lunch at Burgers and Brew. The food was excellent, but we didn't partake in any of the Brew, since we had another 20 miles to go.

Our route took us on to the Yolo Causeway Bypass. That's I-80 on th other side of the fence. This was a stretch of 6 miles with temps above 100 degrees.

We stayed at the Days Inn tonight. Tomorrow we go from an elevation of 50 feet (in Sacramento) to 3500 feet in Jenkinson Lake. We may not have a Wi-fi connection tomorrow night, as we plan on camping out. I better get some sleep...
Eric,
