Hartsburg to Hermann, MO

The trail was a bit soggy today from the rain yesterday and last night, so Mike and I were glad we had fairly wide tires.  It felt quite cool and never really warmed up. We didn't make very good time, but still enjoyed the tranquil environment.  We saw a flock of turkeys pretty close up.  Even though this trail is level to downhill all the way, the added fristion from a graveled surface slows you down about 15%, or so.  The pain curiously appears in one's posterior, rather than the legs; and we were both at our pain thresholds by the end of the ride.

We're staying in the quaint old German town of Hermann tonight and camping in their City Park.
We wandered the downtown to find a place for dinner, and then said goodbye to our friends.  We're off to another camping destination tomorrow, Meramec State Park.  I charted my own course off Google Maps for the next few days, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the roads aren't too bad.

15' High Rock at trail level has levels of various floods over the past 100 yrs marked on it.  It's easy to see why the RR went out of business.

Bluffs like these were on our left this whole stretch of the trail.

Angela had the camp set up and was relaxing in her favorite chair when I arrived.
