Mammoth Cave

Today was a "rest" day for me, to try and work out some of the stiffness and soreness in my legs.  We had planned to go to Mammoth Cave all along, since it's a National Park we've not been to before. .  It was a beautiful cool sunny day, and it was nice to do some driving and hiking instead of biking for a change.  It was a good break for Angela too, since she doesn't relish moving to a new location every day.

Angela has taken up walking for exercise in the mornings, and tries to get in 15,000 paces on her pedometer each day, so I had trouble keeping up with her.  We came pretty close to reaching her goal, and that was a lot of hobbling for me, but it served the purpose of loosening up some tight muscles.  We'll see how that translates over to biking tomorrow.

2 nights at The Sherwood Inn, a vintage 1913 railroad hotel in New Haven, KY.  Don't interpret that as a recommendation...

The original opening to Mammoth Cave, as found by primitive cultures and then pioneers.  Over 400 miles of caves have been explored and mapped.

Stalactites that took thousands of years to form.  Please don't touch!

View of surrounding forest from one of the hiking trails.

  2. That 1913 hotel still had to be better than a sleeping bag on the ground....
